Dear John,
Margaret and Bob had always believed that blessings were meant to be shared.
Over the years, they worked hard, lived modestly, and faithfully invested for the future. What began as a few stock purchases decades earlier quietly grew into one of the largest assets in their estate. As the market reached new highs, they found themselves reflecting less on accumulation and more on purpose.
“At this stage of life, we’re thinking more about stewardship than ownership,” Margaret shared. Now in their seventies, their children had built successful lives in other states. While deeply connected as a family, Margaret and Bob realized some assets they once planned to pass down could instead create meaningful impact today.
As they learned more about the mission of ACH Child and Family Services and its work serving abused, neglected, and vulnerable children, they felt called to help.
“Every child deserves safety, encouragement, and hope,” Margaret said. “We wanted to do something meaningful while we still could.”
After conversations with their advisor, they decided to make an outright gift of appreciated stock to ACH. Because the shares had increased significantly in value over many years, donating them directly allowed them to make a larger charitable impact while also receiving a charitable deduction based on the full market value of the stock and avoiding capital gains taxes on the appreciation.
But for Margaret and Bob, the decision was never primarily about taxes.
“It was about gratitude,” Margaret said. “God has blessed our family abundantly, and this was an opportunity to bless children and families who need hope and healing.”
Today, they describe their gift as one of the most meaningful decisions of their retirement years, a legacy rooted in faith, compassion, and care for future generations.
With gratitude,
Dixie
